One of the unique things Pinehurst Resort does as a company comes about 90 days into a new employee’s time at the Resort. After three months, following their orientation and hitting the ground running to serve Resort guests and Pinehurst Country Club members, the latest cycle of new employees are invited to gather for a casual meeting session.
It’s a laid-back affair, usually accompanied by coffee and cookies. It’s a warm and welcoming environment, one that is embraced and encouraged – and joined – by Pinehurst Resort President Tom Pashley and Nancy Kiska, the Vice President of Human Resources at Pinehurst.
“We call it our 90-day check-in,” Kiska says. “It’s a very open meeting where we can share what brought us to Pinehurst and how things are going for us here. We just want everyone to feel welcome and that they belong.”
At the most recent session, held this week at The Carolina Hotel, employees from departments all across the Resort came together. They included members from the Pinehurst No. 10 golf course maintenance crew, from The Spa and retail outlets, and from the housekeeping and food and beverage teams.
They also hailed from all over the world. Among the group included employees from the United States, India, Kenya, Philippines and Mexico.
“Like all of our check-ins, this one was very informative and we appreciated hearing everyone’s stories,” Kiska says. “But this one in particular just felt a little extra special and heartwarming. It’s been a big year at Pinehurst with the U.S. Open and so many new renovations, and we’re so glad these wonderful folks are on our team at Pinehurst.”
Over the summer, in a vote by Moore County residents that topped more than 23,000 votes, Pinehurst Resort was named as The Pilot newspaper’s “Best Workplace” in its 2024 Best of the Pines survey. With initiatives like the 90-day check-ins, Pinehurst Resort continues to make its best effort to connect with its employees.
