Known for putting some of sports’ biggest moments into Lego form, Jacobs has outdone himself at perhaps the most opportune of times, recreating, in Legos, John Daly’s famous meltdown at Pinehurst No. 2’s 8th hole during the final round of the 1999 U.S. Open.
The audio on Jacobs’ video is from an interview Pinehurst did with Daly a few years ago, when he was happy to talk about what was going through his head on the shot. For those who don’t remember, Daly found himself behind the 8th green on No. 2 with a tough back hole location. He tried putting the ball up the hill, only for it to roll back. He tried again, only for the ball to roll back a second time.
Anyone who has played No. 2 knows EXACTLY how this feels.
The third time, Daly had had enough, and as the ball was still moving, whacked it across the green, leading to a 2-shot penalty, and eventually, carding an 11 on the par-4 on his way to an 83.
Jacobs has done some incredible work in these recreations over the years. This one will make us chuckle for a long time.
