There’s nothing like Pinehurst No. 8 at Pinehurst Resort — especially in 2025.

Pinehurst has announced the first five resort cottages at Pinehurst No. 8 will be complete and ready for guest reservations by May 1, 2025. By next fall, all nine cottages will be complete, offering a total of 52 new rooms.

It is the first time Pinehurst Resort, home to four historic hotels in the Village of Pinehurst, will offer premium, luxury accommodations with sweeping golf course views.

“Through the generations, Pinehurst has always been about offering the best in golf,” says Tom Pashley, president of Pinehurst Resort. “Over the last few years, we’ve strived to enhance all aspects of the resort, with an emphasis on improving our accommodations, dining options and the overall guest experience. The cottages at No. 8 are another reflection of Pinehurst listening to what our guests want and expect when they visit us, and we are excited to share this unique setting as a bold new way to enjoy the Cradle of American Golf.”

At Pinehurst No. 8, gently rolling hills marked by sandscape and wiregrass native to the North Carolina Sandhills blend with lakes and marshlands. Here, those features are cloaked by the towering pines that at the turn of the 20th century buffered the blasts of Wild West sharpshooter Annie Oakley’s Pinehurst Gun Club.

Designated as a Signature Sanctuary by the Audubon Society, it is a setting that remains naturally pristine and framed by golf. When the day’s final putts drop at 18, the course that was built 30 years ago to celebrate the Centennial of Pinehurst Resort begins settling into its evening slumber, an enclave exclusively tucked away from the bustle of the nearby Village.

Now guests will be able to stay here.

Each cottage is two levels with some featuring four bedrooms on each floor and some with two bedrooms on each floor. Inside, a recreation room with a pool table and a common sitting area with a fireplace are coupled with spacious decks and porches outside, overlooking parts of four holes of Pinehurst No. 8. Around and between the cottages will be numerous fire pits, a pavilion and a large putting green that can be lit and played into the night. Cottage guests will also have nearby access to No. 8’s fully renovated clubhouse and its restaurant, which will expand its services.

“The cottages will be an immersive, highly personalized and private golf experience for our guests,” says Eric Kuester, vice president of sales and marketing at Pinehurst Resort. “This will be a next-level luxury offering that can be customized to golf groups, especially, and an experience that’s never really been done here before to this degree.”

The cottages may be the first new construction of Pinehurst Resort accommodations since the Carolina Villas were built in the 1980s, but they are just the next in line of a long list of improved rooms and amenities all across the Resort.

That attention to the guest’s room needs was initially addressed with the full renovation of The Manor, which began in 2019. From there, Pinehurst Resort acquired and renovated The Magnolia in 2021 and later began a three-phase process to renovate the main stack of rooms, the lobby and coffee shop of The Carolina Hotel, which was completed in early 2024. The Carolina Hotel’s renovation also includes a new restaurant, Carolina Vista Lounge, to replace the Ryder Cup Lounge.

The improvements don’t end here. A renovation of The Holly is expected to begin next year.

“We’ve spent a lot of time on our golf courses since the restoration of Pinehurst No. 2, adding The Cradle, Thistle Dhu, No. 4’s redesign, updates to No. 8 and the opening of No. 10,” Pashley says. “The Manor was our first opportunity to really dive into drastically improving our room product, and we learned a lot from that success. Now, with the renovation of The Carolina and the addition of the No. 8 cottages, we feel like there’s never been a better time to play at Pinehurst, or to stay at Pinehurst.”
